Circumcision

Dr. Gottesman recommends that babies be fed one hour before the procedure so they are not irritable from hunger. He welcomes parents to be present during the procedure, both during the administration of the anesthetic and the actual performance of the circumcision.

Written instructions for care of the circumcision are provided to the parents, and in addition, Dr. Gottesman makes a phone call 24 hours later to follow up on the infant’s well-being. He is also available by phone if parents have questions following the circumcision procedure.

Dr. Gottesman will perform circumcisions on newborns. Usually in the 2nd or 3rd week of life. For babies born prematurely, he may wait a little longer until they have reached an acceptable weight.
